O2 network down! Customers in UK furious over coverage problems and service issues

Furious O2 customers have vented their frustration online as one of Britain’s biggest mobile networks faced major network problems this morning.[1] Thousands of affected phones were simply failing to show any data[2] connection during the outage[3]. Customers flagged problems with services on social media as they complained of being unable to use internet services on their mobile phones.

Angry customers told how they relied on their data services. NannyMandaCook said: “Ain’t just data. I can’t text or call either. sort it out!

I’m freelance, you’re costing me money.” Leanne Parker said she was frustrated at paying for a service that does not work: “I rely on @googlemaps to get me where I need to be! @o2 I am lost this morning because of you! I pay a premium to be with #o2 and seems the cheaper networks are working just fine! #o2down[4][5][6][7]

While Hayley Smith tweeted that she was unable to use her bus ticket app to get to work on Thursday. Jennie O’Grady said her daughter relied on her phone as medical device: “My little girl uses her phone as a medical device, it links to her continuous glucose monitor that tests her blood sugar constantly it then sends the data to my phone so I know if her bloods are dangerously low or too high. We rely massively on her having internet access.”

Keiran File said he was unable to get through to his wife on her birthday: “It’s my wife’s birthday and I’m away from home. Have tried calling her all morning but calls don’t connect… can you write me the phone-network-crashing equivalent of an absence note, so I don’t get in trouble with my wife?” Chriss Harald added she was unable to let her mum know she was ok: “Being that calls are ineffective too would you mind calling my mum to confirm to her I’m ok to be picked up at 1 for my appointments and that I’m ok”

While many customers said they would be looking to switch networks. D Bakhai said after many outages this year, he would be looking to terminate his contract. “This is getting annoying, 3rd/4th time this year! Struggling to see why I have to stick to contract when O2 fails to provide service multiple times in year!”

In a statement on its service page, which also appears to be having trouble loading, O2 wrote: “Our technical teams are investigating reports of issues when using data. “Voice calls are working OK. Our technical teams are investigating.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

Updates will be shared here as soon they are available.”
