Major phone network down across the UK with users struck by network and 4G issues

Major phone network O2 is suffering from technical issues this morning, with customers across the UK experiencing problems. There have been reports of phone users being unable to access 4G and data services, including internet usage. Users on the network have taken to Twitter to air their frustrations.

It appears as though the issues started shortly after 5.30am. What’s more, companies which share the O2 network are also reporting that they are having problems – including GiffGaff, Sky Mobile and Tesco Mobile. Outages have been reported across the UK, including Coventry[1].

Other cities affected include Manchester, London and Southampton. The company confirmed the network issues on Twitter, saying: “Our technical teams are investigating reports of issues when using data. “Voice calls are working OK. we are sorry for any inconvenience.”

Train company Virgin Trains have urged train travellers who have a mobile ticket that they need to download their tickets ahead of travelling, if they are on an affected network. Following a large number of complaints made on Twitter this morning, O2 have been directing customers to their coverage and network status checker. You can find this, and look for coverage in Coventry, Warwickshire and beyond right here[2] .
